When your child starts losing interest
This is one of the most important moments in a young player's journey.
And one of the easiest to get wrong.
A drop in interest doesn't always mean a loss of passion.
It can be caused by:
- Pressure
- Reduced game time
- Changes in environment
- Confidence dips
The instinct is often to push through it.
"To keep going."
But if the underlying issue isn't addressed, that pressure can make things worse.
Instead, step back.
Ask simple, open questions:
"What are you enjoying?" "What aren't you enjoying?"
Listen more than you speak.
Sometimes the solution is small — a change in tone, a break, a shift in expectations.
Other times, it may require a bigger change.
But the priority stays the same: Rebuild enjoyment.
Because without it, progress becomes difficult.
And with it, everything else becomes possible again.
